Recap: Saint Mirren 1 Celtic 5 as Ange pokes subtle fun at VAR following significant Paisley victory

Celtic put the pedal to the metal and delivered a 5-1 thrashing in Paisley despite lots of VAR drama.

They may have faltered against St Mirren last time, losing 2-0, but they quickly regained a nine-point lead over Rangers with a five-goal second half performance to demonstrate why they are the Scottish Premiership's undisputed rulers.

When VAR deemed Greg Taylor to have committed a handball inside the area and Mark O'Hara was on hand to punish Celtic, Ange Postecoglou didn't exhibit any symptoms of worrying about a Paisley-style repetition.

Everything was going so well for Stephen Robinson, but when Charles Dunne tackled Kyogo and was expelled, it appeared as though there would only be one result. Thus it turned out.The nett was all found by Jota, Johnston, Abada, O'Riley, and Oh as Postecoglou's team demonstrated why they never stop.

It took them some time to get rolling, but once Celtic got moving, there wasn't much in Scotland that could stop them. To their detriment, Saint Mirren learned this as a result.

Carson, Fraser, Gogic, Dunne, Strain, Baccus, O'Hara, Kiltie, Small, Grieve, and Main are all members of St. Mirren.

Alternates: Urminsky, Shaughnessy, Tanser, Flynn, F Taylor, Offord, Jamieson, and Watt

Hart, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Taylor, McGregor, Hatate, Mooy, Jota, Kyogo, and Maeda are Celtic players.

Abada, Turnbull, Kobayashi, Oh, Iwata, O'Riley, and Ralston are the substitutes.

In their analyses of Celtic's VAR decisions during their match against St. Mirren, Kris Boyd and Andy Walker were diametrically opposed.

The first occurred three minutes in when Mark O'Hara scored a goal for the Saints after Andrew Dallas at Clydesdale House adjudged that Greg Taylor handled the ball inside the box. Then Charles Dunne made a careless backpass, which led to Kyogo being dragged down.

Nevertheless, VAR again stepped in to prevent the Hoops from receiving a penalty, even though the defender was still dismissed.

Later in the second half, Oh was knocked to the ground within the box, and Dickinson made a decision in the visitors' favour this time.
