RESTRICTIONS ON AIRING IMRAN KHAN`s SPEECHES:

Because it aired the former prime minister Imran Khan's speech on Sunday, Pakistan's private news network ARY TV was forced to go off the air today. This happened a few hours after Pakistan's media watchdog on Sunday night forbade broadcasting of speeches by the ousted prime minister.

The broadcaster has also faced criticism in the past.

As the Islamabad Police failed to apprehend the 70-year-old politician last night, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) prohibited satellite television networks from airing his live and taped talks.

The observation that Mr. Imran Khan,Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in his speeches/statements is continuously... levelling baseless allegations and spreading hate speech through his provocative statements against state institutions and officers which is prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order and is likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity," the PEMRA order read.

It claimed that the airing of abusive, defamatory and unjustified words against state institutions is "in stark contravention of Article 19 of the Constitution and a ruling of the Supreme Court", reported news agency PTI.

As a result, "the responsible authority, i.e. Chairman PEMRA...hereby restricts broadcast/rebroadcast of speech(s)/press talks of Mr. Imran Khan on all satellite TV stations with immediate effect."

The overseer ordered everyone According to Article 17 of the Electronic Media (Programs and Advertising) Code of Conduct 2015, satellite TV broadcasters must establish fair editorial boards to ensure that the platforms are not utilised to broadcast disparaging remarks against government organisations.

A warrant for Imran Khan's arrest has been issued in connection with a case involving gifts.

PEMRA issued a warning that TV channel licences would be suspended in the event of non-compliance.

Khan has been the target of PEMRA's actions before. In November of last year, it had already forbade the transmission and redistribution of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader's news conferences and speeches. The restriction was, however, lifted the same day by the federal government.

Imran Khan was detained by the Islamabad Police in Lahore yesterday using After Khan missed many court dates, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued.

Nevertheless, the former PM wasn't at home. Afterwards, he reappeared outside his house and made a vicious speech. The suspension resulted from the news channel airing this speech.
